PostSubject: Boondocks Season 1   Sat Feb 14, 2009 12:58 pm

This is one of those shows that can't be helped but called "anime," even though it is an anime-influenced American animated show. Based on Aaron McGruder's comic strip, the show focuses on political and controversial issues through satirical humor. A lot of times, the show takes a jab at Black culture, keeping in mind this is all based on a black person's point of view. While the show is extremely hillarious, it goes without saying that this is only intended for mature audiences. The N word is often thrown in there along with stereotyping and a lot of cursing and at times, a lot of blood. But it isn't racist, it's more of a humorous way of speaking the truth and those who are familiar with it will know what I'm referring to. Either way, its a great watch and one that'll keep you laughing throuhout the entire show. Tell me what you think.

It's an awesome show, to be sure. There is a lot of political and social satire going on in the show, which criticizes both white and black culture, as well as the Bush Administration and other social issues. I could be wrong, but it seems that each character represents a certain "element" or aspect of Black culture-

Huey-Represents the more left-wing, marxist Black politicians of the late 60's and 70's. He has posters in his room depicting Che and Malcom X, and would probably be in the Black Panthers if he lived at the time. He is obviously more calm and intellectual than his brother Riley, who represents everything Huey stands against.

Riley-Riley represents the more current youth culture which has come to dominate the Black community. He is very impressionable, and tends to do what is cool. McGruder uses him to emphasize the problems the community is currently facing.

Grandad-Represents the old civil rights activists who marched in places like Birmingham and followed Martin Luther King Jr. While he sought change, he's gradually given up following King's death, and accepts the status quo, even if it isn't exactly what he fought for.

This show has a lot of symbolism, but it is also funny as hell. I especially love the "Stinkmeaner" episode(and the one where he comes back in the second one) and Uncle Ruckus always makes me laugh my ass off...lol

Yes! That's exaclty right Forsaken! Huey is more the complete opposite of Riley! And that Stinkmeaner episode was hillarious! I loved the beginning! The Nigga Moment! The exaggerated faces on both the guys was funny as hell! That and a Date With a Health Inspector, where Tom dreams of getting butt raped in the Jail Bathroom! Priceless.

lol I didn't expect Jody to like this show for some reason...but yeah, it's pretty freaking hilarious. You just have to watch out, if some of this stuff is taken out of context, it can come across as being stereotypical or even racist...

speaking of which, does anyone know when the third season is coming out?

I think they said later next year. I know they mentioned that they were currently working on the new episodes. Boondocks is known to be delayed though, so it could be later.

hopefully that's true Blitz...it's one of the best shows on adult swim in my opinion...but i wonder...do a lot of people watch it? It seems to be pretty popular, but I'm not sure it's the hit Robot Chicken or Family Guy seem to be.
