From developer FromSoftware comes one of the most anticipated games....

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

An open world action RPG that takes place in a dark fantasy universe. The game allows the player to explore a wide variety of places that range from dungeons, forests, caves, temples, and more. Enjoy rich gameplay and visuals in this stunning open world RPG. There's plenty to explore and plenty to be careful of as well...

At games's start, you're also forced to create your own character. Choose his/her name, class, and equipment. The variety of weaponry and armor is great and each with its pros and cons. Choose wisely for it will determine how well you progress.

There are plenty obstacles to endure from a wide variety of enemies to traps in certain environments. Death plays an important role here as the enemies get tougher and smarter with each death. Prevail, and the rewards will be great.

The game allows players to interact with other players by either summoning for assistance in co-op or to fight other players that invade your world. Invaders in Demon Souls were reffered to as Black Phantom invaders and would invade your game at any given time. Getting killed by one of those would often have its downs. Stay alive and best your opponent. Will you be a part of the fun? Look for it this October.

Wow...looks pretty amazing man...the graphics look top notch! I'd love to pick it up as one of my first games with my PS3...So you can fight against other players as well? Instead of just helping eachother?

Btw Luis, I love the description you wrote up...it should definitely be on the back of the game box...lol

Oh, and I notice it's coming out in October..my birthday month...what do you say Skye? I think this and a PS3 would be a perfect present! Very Happy

Yessir! Thanks for the feedback! You can choose to invade other worlds (players) and try to kill them for points. They can also summon friends to help them fight off invaders. At the same time, your friends can also help you get through the game. This is especially helpful when dealing with tough opponents, like bosses (which there are plenty of). It's one of those games which will make you think strategy and survival.

The graphics are top-notch and it's what I wish a Zelda game would look like. So it sounds like I sold you on it, maybe? lol! Hope to see if Jody would like it enough to buy it. Maybe the three of us can partake on some gaming Smile

Hope you get this game and a PS3 for your Birthday! Wink

You know, oddly enough I thought of Zelda when I was watching the video...especially when the big dragon came swooping down! It would be EPIC if Zelda looked like this game. You know, I'm actually really surprised this is made by Namco-Bandai...doesn't look like a Japanese game at all!!

Being that the gameplay will be very similar to Demon Souls, which I have, I'd say you've nothing to worry about. It's a third person action RPG. There is a shield button and an attack button. The cross pad is used for items and then there's a running/dashing button. Attacking an enemy from behind will enable a "surprise back stab." Also, there is a "Lock-targeting" system that you can utilize. Hope that description helps somewhat.

Not at all. Valkyria Chronicles (an EPIC RPG) is turned based strategy while Dark Souls is free roam. Think Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and beyond Smile

Also, the overworld is HUGE!

I keep hearing great things about it, and those videos make it look awesome...really makes me wish I had the cash for a PS3...do you think it has any chance of winning game of the year? I keep hearing it being compared to the likes of Uncharted 3, Skyrim, and Skyward Sword.

That's a good question. Dark Souls is truly in a class of its own but it does have some flaws. While its more or less a "staple" of the game, the challenge it packs is something that will vary from gamer to gamer. I personally enjoy the harshness it brings, since I'm a glutton for punishment, however, other gamers may simply be put off by it after a few tries. Dark Souls is one of those games (from what I've played) that require you to be patient and to learn from your mistakes. You will eventually grow as you adapt both as a gamer and as the character/avatar you use.

Other than that, I love it. As far as it goes to be compared to Skyrim, Uncharted 3, and Skyward Sword - I think it's a bit unfair. Skyrim, is a adventure game with a huge fanbase. I've never played any of the previous games, but I can see it is a beautiful game with an interesting game mechanic that I'll eagerly anticipate playing once I get my hands on it Smile
I can't make a comparison there since I've yet to play it.

Uncharted 3, is more of a story-based game with two previous games under its belt to back up its hype. Having played the first two and now currently on the third, comparing it to Dark Souls is like comparing apples and bananas. Or was it pinapples? Anyway, the game is great if you want to dive deep into an action/adventure, 3rd person shooter game with a captivating story and set of characters. Dark Souls lacks that but that's okay since Dark Souls is an open sandbox RPG with a custom created character as your one and only usable character.

Skyward Sword is a little tricky. Hearing all of the changes they've made to the new Zelda game, I wonder how much of the tradition it breaks. I'm sure we'll see plenty of puzzles which is something that Dark Souls lacks. SS will most likely be story driven and will have a unique set of gameplay to offer players. If its one thing Nintendo does, its create quality 1st party titles. We'll have to play this one to see how it pans out.

All in all, I'd say the games that've come out recently are all great in their own unique way. It all depends on what you're looking for in a game. Each game and gamer have a niche. Now do I think Dark Souls has GOTY potential? As much as I love Dark Souls, I have to be honest and say, no. Unfortunately, it came out during a year that has been bombarding gamers with big hit titles such as Skyward, Uncharted, Batman, and Skyrim. Still, Dark Souls is a niche game for those looking to be punished and rewarded. It's a great game, that I think anyone with the means should try.

An interesting take...I figured you'd push for it to be a strong candidate for GOTY, but you're very honest, which is admirable. Still, I like how the difficulty sounds, especially since so many games are just WAY too easy these days. I think it's a risky move on the developer's part, and definitely a "niche" of sorts for certain gamers, but it's a good risk to take. The more I hear about this game, the more I regret not having a PS3. Plus I love the idea of other gamers joining your world to give you a hand...just plain awesome.

It's a great experience that everyone should enjoy. While it does suck that you don't have a PS3, Dark Souls is also for the XBOX 360. Demon's Souls was the PS3 exclusive but its successor Dark Souls was made into a multiplatform game. If anything else, give it a shot on the 360 Smile
